Why? Why is skyscrapers downtown better? Well. I believe a good downtown should be full of people as people makes it more vibrant and alive. By building tall residential buildings you can fit more people on a smaller surface. The result of that is more stores, more restaurants and more of everything within a small radius. That to me is a perfect downtown.
The problem with some cities that have skyscrapers downtown, though is that they have been invaded by businesses, so instead of a vibrant core of the city, you get a ghost town during the evenings and weekends. And that’s not good either. However, I think trends are pulling those cities in the right direction. Tampa is one of them and as of the last few years there has been a huge wave of residents moving downtown. A great trend in my opinion.
