FEMA and their 50% rule – What can one do?

I have just gotten in to something that is bothering me majorly. The county is claiming the 50% rule on some of our houses after having them flood during a hurricane.

The rule states that if the county deems the house to need repairs exceeding 50% of it’s value, the house must me demolished or rebuilt to meet all new building requirements. Neither is an option for us since it would not be financially reasonable.

Learn all about the regulations here.

The pickle is that our houses have already been restored, rented and are back to the same shape they where in before the storm. Or even better. Learn all about it in this video!

Now, since we have already restored them, for a cost much lower than the one the county claims it would cost, we obviously do not want to demolish them. We want to keep them. So, what do we do now?

Well, there is very little information on the subject and I will therefore share all the information I can gather on the subject here and on YouTube. Stay tuned!
